Rebar

Raw bar in, threaded part out

AKEA builds thread rolling machines that turn reinforcement bar into coupler-ready parts. Our production equipment makes threaded rebar, rebar couplers, foundation bolts, cast-in anchor bolts, self-drilling anchors, hollow bar anchors, resin bolts, rock bolts, cable bolts, tie rods and other threaded steel components. Our GA and GEW machines chamfer, peel and thread-roll the bar end in one sequence, so every bar leaves the machine with the same thread.

Why the thread is rolled

A rolled thread is formed by displacing material rather than cutting it away. The grain of the steel follows the thread profile, and the thread root carries compressive stress at exactly the point where a cut thread starts to crack under repeated load. Rolling is also faster and leaves no chips.

Three operations, one machine

Chamfering, peeling and thread rolling run in the same machine. Peeling takes the ribs off the threaded section, and the thread is rolled onto clean, round material. On the GA Series the spindles work simultaneously rather than one after another, which shortens the cycle for every bar.

Choosing the machine

The GA Series is fully automatic. It separates and loads bars from a magazine and rolls threads from M12 to M100 on parts from 300 to 6,000 mm. The GA Upright Series handles parts up to 12 metres and threads up to M120. The GEW Series is semi-automatic: the operator loads the bar and the machine runs the full cycle.
